East Port Properties celebrates grand opening of 351 Water Street

The first new office building in downtown St. John’s in 25 years

St. John’s, NL – Last night marked the grand opening celebration of 351 Water Street, and the official beginning of a new age in the city’s waterfront development.

“It is an honour to be surrounded by the people that have been an integral part of transforming 351 from paper sketch to the first new building in downtown St. John’s in 25 years,” said John Lindsay, President of East Port Properties. “This accomplishment is the result of years of collaboration, and to all of those involved, we tip our hats and say thank you.”

351 Water Street is the first building to be heated and cooled by sea water in Newfoundland and Labrador. Inspired by its surroundings, the unique design is expected to provide significant environmental and economic results. 351 is a Canadian Green Building Council LEED® Certification Candidate, and has been constructed to the LEED® Gold standards.

Mayor Dennis O’Keefe was in attendance, and thanked everyonewho played a role in the development of the iconic building. He spoke of the intrinsic value of Water Street and the harbour, and the appreciation for the concept behind 351 Water Street.

As part of the evening’s festivities, the winning piece of artwork from Blank Canvas: A Juried Call for Public Art Commission was unveiled. Valued at $100,000, this was the first private sector juried art commission in Newfoundland and Labrador. Newfoundland visual artist Will Gill was selected as the winner, and his piece ‘Black Island Punt’ is now permanently on display in the lobby of 351.
